The Birds
🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦
Written over 2,500 years ago, The Birds has a surprisingly relatable plot. When these two pals come upon the birds, they are intoxicated by the opportunity to control the air between man and the gods from a bird’s eye view. The power trip that plays out as they name the city, establish borders, and hear out hopeful migrants echoes the political battles we hear about in nightly newscasts.

Process Shots
In 2017, a band of friends and friends of friends road-tripped to South Carolina to put up a site-specific telling of The Birds in an old Schoolhouse. We were greeted with exceptional hospitality by the community in Darlington where we were put up in a house with plenty of beds and outdoor space to explore. Between there and the Schoolhouse, we created costumes, sets, and sound, developed a daily physical practice, pinned up posters, and sent out press releases. An important part of our process was sharing lunches, oysters, and the show with the Back Swamp community. Two locals joined us on stage and countless helped in the effort by supplying us with coffee, music, tools, food, and so much more.
